Of champagne and confetti

I have to admit that even I, who had not watched a football game in decades, got caught up in the Patriot's journey. Being the muse I am I pondered on why the Super Bowl galvanized our attention this year.

It's our quest for the heroic. It's our human romance with heroic experience that transcends the every day and lifts us into celebration of great achievement. Super Bowl 2008 gave us a way to vicariously share in the yearning to reach beyond our "limits" and experience great accomplishments. There was something in this year's Super Bowl for everyone.

For Patriot's fans there was the "impossible dream" manifested in their 18 - 0 season, something that had never been done before. In the Giant's win we experience the come-from-behind-victory; the joy of beating the odds. We love the underdog; we thrill to someone beating the odds.

The champagne and confetti mush has now been swept clan from the stadium. We are left with memories and celebration. We could take more from Super Bowl 2008. We could choose to move beyond vicarious appreciation and decide to be more heroic in our own lives. We could stretch ourselves just a bit further. Reach out for our heart's desire with more energy, focus, and determination. Give our own inner hero more opportunity for a fuller expression.

Seeing outstanding athletes perform at the top of their game is a good experience. Seeing ourselves perform at the top of whatever game we choose to play is far richer and way more wonderful.
